You can save yourself time and money knowing the job is done right if you change the oil yourself. To change the oil in your automobile all you need is some basic tools. The tools needed to correctly change the oil in your car are a basic wrench set, a Jack to jack the car up, and a pair of jacks stands to safely support the car while you are working underneath it.
First you will need to make sure that you have the proper size wrench or socket to loosen the oil drain pan plug with. So it's a good idea to have your tools already handy and already have the correct tools for the job before you begin to change the oil in your car. You will need to use a floor jack to safely jack the car up on both sides of the frame. Once you have the car safely jack to a position where you can work underneath it you need to place floor jacks to support the frame on both sides of the frame so the car will be supported and you can work 100 percent safely.
You need to have the car securely supported with Jack stands before you go any further in changing the oil in your car. This is very important for your safety the car must be securely supported with Jack stands before you change the oil. Once the car is securely supported you may now begin to loosen the oil pan and drain plug with a socket or wrench and let the oil drain out. Make sure you have a large pan underneath the oil pan to catch all the old oil. Now you can screw back in the oil drain pan plug after all the old oil has been drained out and tighten the oil pan plug securely.
After all the old oil has been drained out of the car and oil plug has been reinstalled and is tightly secure you can now proceed to the next up. You need to locate the oil filter underneath the car and you need to loosen the oil filter with a special wrench and take the old oil filter off. Make sure you have a large pan underneath oil filter to catch any old oil that may spill out. Now that you have the old filter off you can now take your new filter and screw it in were the old filter was. Always check for leaks after you install the new oil filter onto the car.
Once both of these are done you can now safely lower the vehicle with your jack stand back to its original position. Now you will need to replace the oil in the engine so you will need to have the engine hood opened and you will need to unscrew the oil filler cap from the engine. Once you have taken the oil filler cap off the engine you can now proceed to fill with the amount of oil that is needed to correctly fill it to its full position the owners manual for your car should tell you how many quarts of oil will be necessary for it to be at a full level.
After you have completed the above steps and you have filled your automobile with the correct amount of oil you can now place your oil cap Back onto the engine and secure it tightly. Now that this is done you can safely start the automobile let it run for a minute and then shut it off. You now can check the low oil level in the car by pulling out the oil level dipstick wiping it off with a rag or old towel pushing it back in the dipstick and pulling it back out this will give you a level reading of how much oil is in the car. Always check underneath the car and inside engine compartment for any oil leaks that may arise from you changing the oil if something is leaking you need to make an adjustment and tighten the screw or tighten the oil filter.
Now that you can see how easy it is to change the oil in your vehicle, with the steps that I have mentioned in the above paragraphs I hope you will find this information helpful. If you follow the steps I've mentioned you can safely and efficiently change the oil in your car yourself and save some money and know that the job was done right the first time.
