The body works hard to maintain a pH balance, therefore an unhealthy diet can put even more stress on the body by working harder o maintain that pH balance. Generally, it is better to have a pH higher in alkaline than acidity. Because the typical Western diet is full of more acidic foods, it is important to focus on eating more alkaline foods to offset the overabundance of acid.

When there is too much acid in the bloodstream, a condition known as acidosis occurs. Too much acid leads to an imbalance, which weakens the immune system. A weak immune system is unable to fend off diseases and illnesses. Coffees, dairy products, alcohol, meats, processed foods and artificial sweeteners are the most acidic.

Getting more alkaline in the in the body can as easy as drinking water, ionized water that is. The benefit of drinking ionized water is that it makes acidic wastes more soluble in the bloodstream. As the acidic waste becomes more soluble, it is easier through excrete through urine or sweat.

Besides drinking ionized water, eating alkaline foods is just as important. Foods low in acidity are not too hard to find. They are also not very expensive. All vegetables should be eaten more often since they are high alkaline and low in calories.

By eating more vegetables, fruits and unprocessed foods, a person can have a healthy pH balance and avoid acidosis. Making sure to drink plenty of water and exercise will also help a person attain optimal health.
