Otherwise, red tape and piles of paperwork can make the task seem insurmountable. A man who has found his true love in Russia and wishes to being her back to the US with him, would be dismayed at having to leave her behind while paperwork is completed.
When a man marries in Russia, it becomes his responsibility to apply for a "Petition for an Alien Relative." The wife also has to obtain an Immigrant Visa. This Visa has conditions tied to it and the couple must reside in the United States for a period of two years before the conditions can be lifted. At that time, the INS or Immigration and Naturalization Service, is free to perform any and all investigations it may deem appropriate before granting resident status.
If the couple were to decide to marry on US soil, the groom would file a petition with the INS for a 'Fiance Visa.' In order to be allowed to marry in the US, it would have to be proven that the couple have met on at least one occasion sometime during the two years previous. If the INS is satisfied that the terms have been met the Russian bride will be allowed entry into the United States to marry. Only ninety days time is allowed in which to do so. Having had little time to get to know each other previously, the parties involved may feel that they would be doing each other an injustice and call the marriage off. If so the Russian bride would return to her native land.
Even when the bride has had plenty of time to get to know her prospective American husband, and looks forward to a lifetime with him, leaving the country of her birth is a very difficult thing for her to do. Biding farwell to parents and siblings that she could possibly never see again will add pallor to the best of occasions.
Language can be another difficulty to overcome in many cases. While a good number of Russian woman are well acquainted with the English language, others have only a smidgen of understanding our language. A teacher should be hired to aid in the process of learning the English language. Imagine how much easier life will be, when one has a good understanding of the words being spoken by everyone around her.
A groom who cares for the feelings of his bride will treat the entire situation with kindness and understanding. She is agreeing to make the move to a country that is foreign to her in almost all ways. She knows no one here, with the exception of her new husband, and introductions should be made slowly. Allowing her to become content getting to know your closest family members will add to her comfort as she begins to meet more of your family.
Give your new bride a tour of her new town. Acquaint her with places such as the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the hair salon. Items that she treasures can be added to the family home to allow her a feeling of belonging in a residence that was once entirely yours.
As much as her country meant to her, let her see why your country means so much to you. Take a few days to travel and point out the places you have held near and dear all of your life. Let her know that your country is now her country and that in time she will come to love it as much as you do.
