First, it is important to understand that all internet marketing systems follow three simple steps.

1. Find a product to sell or niche to market in

2. Build an online presence

3. Drive traffic to your web presence

There are a lot of details to each of those steps, but by and large those are the steps. After that, it involves tweaking, repeating steps 2) and 3), and then duplicating all those steps to another product.

Now when it comes to making money blogging, there are two ways general ways to do it: sell a niche product (e.g. dog training ebook) or sell yourself as a product. In either case you are starting a blog to be your online presence. If you are selling a niche type product we would call that a Niche Blog or Product Blog. If you are selling yourself, then we would call that a Personal Blog. Both blogging models can fit right into the above three step system

Personal Blog. Here is how your three steps would pan out:

1. Find something to blog about. This could be a specific niche (e.g. dog training), or it could be many different niches: whatever you want to express your opinion about. One day it could be about various high definition TVs, the next day it could be about baby

2. Blog about it. (I do not want to put a "well, duh" here, but that is probably what you are thinking right?). This is in effect building your online presence

3. Drive traffic to your blog. You could have the best blog in the world, but people need to know how to find it. This involves the art of backlink building. There are many ways to build backlinks and you want to utilize a wide variety of them.

Niche Blog Model. Your three steps would be:

1. Pick a product you want to sell (e.g. dog training manual), OR pick a niche you are interested in (e.g. dog training) and you can pick the products later

2. Find topics in your niche (e.g. how to potty train a dog) and blog about it. You should write many articles about one topic as well as find many topics to write about. Having a variety will build a great online presence

3. Drive traffic to your blog site. This involves backlink building, similar to what was discussed above. The more links and the wider variety of links the better. Plus if you can get links from sites specific to your niche, that will be powerful too

Making money blogging is about traffic. With either blog model: Personal Blog or Niche Blog, you can generate traffic. The more traffic, the more potential money you can make. From there it's just a matter of monetizing your blog. The easiest way is with google adsense ads or other ad banners. Affiliate product links is another way. For example, for each Personal Blog post you can probably find a product related to the topic you are blogging about. With a personal blog you can plug a variety of products alongside a variety of blog topics you post about. With a Niche Blog, you would be plugging fewer products but they would be for a more targeted and maybe even a more "purchase-ready" market. In fact for Niche Blogging I think your readers would expect you to plug your favorite products.

These three steps is really all there is to make money blogging, or to make money on the internet for that matter. It is a simple concept. The deployment itself is not complicated, it is just a lot of time and work and can be quite tedious.
